This is where you log in to serve breakfast or lunch.
The Serving Date defaults to the Meals Plus server machine’s current date. It cannot be changed unless you have security rights (under System Management: Security: User Group Setup: Point of Sale: Preference).
Select Breakfast or Lunch from the Meal Type dropdown list.
Select an option from the Quick Serve Item dropdown list, if desired.
WHAT'S A QUICK SERVE ITEM?
This would be an item that you serve to most of your students. Usually it would be the reimbursable meal but it can be any item.
If you enter an item here, you won’t need to enter it every time you select a student. This will save time if most students get the same item.
But if someone is not getting that item you will need to remove it. So if your students get mostly different items, it may be better to leave this blank.
Select a Serving Site from the Serving Site dropdown list. This is the site that will be used for the Daily Deposit report and for any generic transactions.
If Touch Screen is on, you will have a keypad on the screen that you can use to enter numbers, and big arrows for moving the cursor.
If Touch Screen is off, you will not get the pop-up keypads. The serving screen will show the F key numbers and Item ID#s for use with the keyboard.
Removing a Quick Serve Item
When a quick serve item does not display in Serving Screen 1.0 when the touch screen is off, follow these instructions to remove it:
Please see How to use Auto Serve for detailed instructions on this feature.
You will see this message while it fills your student list. It will select all the students in the Serving Site you selected and any secondary sites that are associated with it.
Now you are ready to serve breakfast or lunch:
This only works for student accounts (status 2, 3, and 4). It uses the B or L item number 001 to determine the meal price.
For Lunch, they need to get 3, 4 or 5 of the following: M, P, B, V, V (two different V items).
A reimbursable breakfast consists of either three or four of the required components. Please see item setup for details.
It will charge the 001 meal price for the meal components.
The meal price is the same regardless of how many components they get.
If they are getting additional items that are not included in the reimbursable meal, it will add those prices to the Total Due. (NOTE: In some cases, the sequence of the items entered can affect the price. Usually, entering the more expensive items first will result in the lowest total price.)
Once a transaction has been converted to a reimbursable meal, no items that are part of the meal can be removed. If you need to make corrections, just clear the transaction and re-enter it.
If you do not want to use the conversion feature,
just use nutrition code X for all your items instead of the component
codes M, P, V and B.
When there is no student selected, you can rearrange the sequence of the items displayed. This allows you to put the most frequently used items at the top of the screen.
Just click on an item with the mouse (or touch it if using a touch screen) and drag it to another location in the grid.
It will automatically save your settings when you close the serving screen.
The background colors provide a quick way to tell what the nutrition code is.
Different colors can be assigned for each nutrition code. This is based on a district setting and can be edited in Item Setup.
There is a setting available to use a subtle color coding for accounts with free and reduced status on the serving screens.
It just uses a different background color for the Serving Number field (in Serving Screen 1.0) or the Meal Countfield (in Serving Screen 2.0) instead of the standard gray background. There is no text or other indication of what the colors represent, so it does not overtly identify the status. Free is indicated with light orange, and Reduced with light green.
This is an optional setting and applies to all serving screens except Auto Serve, if enabled. Please contact Meals Plus Support for assistance if you would like to use this feature.
